Uilleann Small Drone Tuning This sound sample shows the small drone's D being tuned against the A of the chanter. I chose this as a beginner's example because it is easy to play and tune continuously, covering the chanter holes with the bag hand and tuning the drone with the bellows hand. Other players may have different preferences. Notice the ringing or vibrating nature of the sound at first. As the small drone is brought into tune, the vibration slows to a pulsing or "wa-wa" sort of tone. When the tuning is exact, this vibration stops entirely and all sensation of movement ceases. An experienced player will accept such tuning only as a starting point. S/He will play and test other notes against the drone to decide on refinements of the initial setting. End of uilleann small drone tuning.
